Our vision for our final system is one that is contained within a shipping container, that can be placed in a community area so that it may provide food for the whole community. We also want to make our system interactive so that it can be educational for the whole community.
In our final system we aim to grow leafy greens and vegetables that can be used in recipes by the community. We’ll be using vertical growing towers in our system because they increase the amount of plants we can grow in a given area which will let us have a more compact system.
In our final system we estimate that we will sustain 25 to 30 growing towers, that produce 15 pounds of produce each. This means we’ll produce 375 to 450 pounds of produce per growing cycle.
In our final system we will use a hatchery choice of Tilapia as these fish can be used in a wide variety of recipes and are very resilient. The hatchery choice includes Blue Tilapia, White Brook White Nile Tilapia, Red Nile Tilapia, Hawaiian Gold Tilapia or Wild Color Mozambique Tilapia. This diversity of fish will lead to a greater biodiversity in our system and stagger the harvest times of the fish.
In our final system we estimate that we will sustain between 110 to 275 pounds of fish, depending on the packing density of our system.
